Still/Life
Group Exhibition
Curatorial Statement
by Barbara Bryn Klare
The concept of “still life” has long been a cornerstone in art history, arranging commonplace objects–fruit, flowers, drapery–to evoke contemplation and themes of fragility or mortality. In STILL/LIFE, the figure is subject, object, and vessel for these everyday yet universal stories.
The artists featured in STILL/LIFE reveal layers of meaning hidden in the mundane, urging us to see beyond the surface to connect with subtle energies that animate us and the world around us. We are still and alive: we are still life.
STILL/LIFE is a meditation on the body as both art and storyteller.
