A Soft Place to Rest
Logan Kenler and Lindsey Kenler
A Soft Place to Rest is a collaborative exhibition by sibling artists Lindsey and Logan Kenler that transforms the gallery into an immersive landscape of textiles and ceramic sculpture. Suspended quilts divide and reshape the intimate space, creating shifting passages and unexpected encounters with dozens of hand-built ceramic forms.
Together, the works unfold as an environment to be wandered rather than simply observed.
Though working in different materials, Lindsey and Logan share a deep commitment to the language of craft. Their practices are rooted in slow, attentive making, where repetition, touch, and time become integral to the finished work. Fabric and clay (humble materials with long histories of domestic and communal use) carry traces of memory, ritual, and care, connecting contemporary practice with traditions passed from one generation to the next.
The exhibition reflects on cycles of beginning and ending, periods of incubation that quietly precede growth, and the ways knowledge is absorbed through repetition over time. Lindsey’s quilts draw upon textile traditions, ancestral inheritances, and the rhythms of the natural world, while Logan’s ceramic sculptures reference ancient figurines, everyday ritual, and the enduring presence of play and imagination. Though distinct in form, the works speak to one another with a shared sense of tenderness and curiosity.
As visitors move through the installation, the exhibition continually reveals itself. Hanging textiles soften and reshape the gallery while clusters of ceramic figures emerge from unexpected vantage points, creating moments of discovery and quiet conversation. Rather than presenting a single narrative, A Soft Place to Rest invites viewers to experience the space through movement, allowing relationships between objects, materials, and memory to unfold gradually. Together, Lindsey and Logan Kenler have created an environment where craft becomes not only a means of making, but a way of understanding connection, lineage, and the beauty found in attentive work.
