In this one-day collaborative exhibition, artists Tiffany Law and Francisco Berlanga present a series of material interventions that meditate on the idea of the shrine—reshaped, restaged, and restored. Candle Smoke With a Long Draw conjures a sacred, fleeting atmosphere, assembling a constellation of relics: earlier works marked by grief, memory, and cultural lineage, and new gestures crafted from salvaged materials, reaching toward that same charged presence.

At the heart of the exhibition stands a central altar, flanked by corner shrines, two mobile sculptural shrines, and a coffin lying in wake. These elements form a temporary devotional space—a shrine to a shrine. This is a third-class reliquary, a site of reverence for objects that once bore witness to something authentic. Law and Berlanga do not offer resolution but instead invite contemplation. The materials speak in fragments—of what was, what remains, and what might still be grasped through repetition, ritual, and reimagining.

ARTIST BIOS

Tiffany Law

Tiffany Law is a Hong Kong visual artist living and working on the stolen ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations. Her practice explores drawing and printmaking as conceptual and material tools for creating personal archives that reflect loss and existence, expanding on how grief resists standardised temporal structures and embraces the inherent fragility of being. Through mark-making, she externalises the self and engages with time woven by labour, pain, and gesture. Fascinated by the entanglements between the mortal body, geological time and land formation, her work challenges finality through cyclical and labour-intensive processes.

Law holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia (2024). Her work has been supported by the Audain Foundation and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Her recent solo exhibitions include back of a drawer (2025) at Access Gallery, Vancouver, and sedimented sentiments (2024) at WURE area, Hong Kong. She has received support from the Audain Foundation (2023) and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2021) for her artistic research and practice.

Francisco Berlanga

Francisco Berlanga is a Vancouver based textile artist whose practice reflects on his relationship to his Mexican identity as a second-generation immigrant through the lens of Craft. He attempts to understand how one can inhabit a culture while being partially absent from it. He engages in discourse with his own identity through the creation of traditional Mexican “manualidades” or crafts. His practice engages with concepts of inaccessibility attempting to bridge the gaps between his personal and cultural identities by forcing connections between them and trying to understand the limitations that these identities impose upon each other. Histories of repetition often produce apparitions of motifs that haunt his works. His previous exhibitions include a solo show at Grunt Gallery and group shows at the Morris and Helen Belkin gallery, the AHVA gallery, This gallery, and the Audain gallery. Berlanga obtained his BFA at Simon Fraser University and his MFA at the University of British Columbia.
