BARBARA BRYN KLARE
One curatorial half of THIS GALLERY, Barbara is an artist and curator. She utilizes rescued textiles, drawing, objects, text, and natural and digital materials in her art practice to explore themes of fragility, repair, sustainability, and powerlessness. Ongoing curatorial projects include @modernboro and @TheArtistshelf on Instagram.
Barbara holds an MA Fine Art from University of Creative Arts (UK) and a BA in Geology and Studio Art/Art History from Oberlin College in Ohio. She divides her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and southeastern Ohio.
One curatorial half of THIS GALLERY, Shannon Pawliw creates paintings, installations, mixed media, sculptural, and conceptual artworks centred around legacy, memory, and loss. At once humorous and nostalgic, her work is keenly autobiographical. It also tends to have an element of the obsessive, which is expressed and indulged through daily practice and ritual. Her work examines the human need for ‘conclusive’ stories and the question of whether anecdotal memory (real or imagined) ‘fictionalizes’ history.
Pawliw graduated with a BFA from Concordia University (Montreal) and currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
